Shlomit Lir
Shlomit Lir is a cultural researcher who writes her PhD in the field of Gender Studies at Bar Ilan University. She is a talented lecturer and an accomplished writer who writes on issues concerning social justice. An anthology on Mizrahi feminist thinking she has recently edited, To My Sister, Mizrahi, Feminist Politics, was praised throughout academic as well as pure activist venues. Throughout the last couple of years she organized and led important social, feminist and environmental projects which won great success.
As an IT specialist Shlomit has built and designed various social internet sites. She has organized and led a convention on The Internet as a Platform for a Feminist Revolution at Bar Ilan University which has won a great success and media coverage. Her Eco-feminist project has been a break through in rethinking environmental concern from a feminist viewpoint, putting great emphasis on its meaningfulness to women and other disempowered communities in Israel. Ms. Lir has managed the Woman for Presidency campaign, which promoted the election of a woman for the Israeli presidency and the proper representation of women in public policy positions. She was an active lobbyist in promoting the amendment to Israeli law for equal rights for women on the clause of proper representation of women from various groups in political issues.
